Project Goals

Video Creation:

  • Create five 45 minute lesson plans, using materials from AVID's 7th grade weeks-at-a-glance curriculum, that will train students on how to take and use Focused Cornell Notes in their classes.

  • Create a document to show how Focused Cornell Notes utilize Marzano strategies, elements from Antonetti's Engagement Cube, and the College and Career Anchor Standards from the Common Core.

  • Record and edit each lesson into fully interactive videos that can be used in classrooms across the district to implement the training.

Video Distribution:

  • Videos and materials will be stored on individual flash drives and distributed to every AVID school within the CNUSD school district.

  • At least five AVID sites within the CNUSD school district will begin using these videos to teach students how to take Focused Cornell Notes in their classes.

  • Videos will be uploaded as on-demand modules on the AVID website.

Student and Teacher Outcomes:

  • The average student scores on the Focused Cornell Notes Checklist Post-test will be at least 70%.

  • Student scores on the Focused Cornell Notes checklist will increase by an average of at least 25% from the Pre- and Post-test scores.

  • 80% of students being trained using the videos will report that the videos helped them learn how to take and use Focused Cornell Notes in their classes.

  • Student test grades will improve overall by 10% in the targeted class.

  • 80% of teachers using the videos to train their students will report that they felt the trainings adequately taught their students the basics of how to take and use Focused Cornell Notes in their classes.
