Project Timeline

May- 2014

Goal: To secure the $2400 that the videographer has quoted for the Five Days to Focused Cornell Notes Project.

Action Steps:

  • Meet with Principal to run through project idea and get ideas for ways to finance the project.

  • Contact Middle School CNUSD AVID coordinators to see if they would be willing to use part of their 2014-2015 AVID budget to finance the project.

  • Meet with Philip Saxena to share my vision for this project to seek his advice and securing funds for this project.

  • Meet with Kelly Bruce to share my vision for this project and to secure funds for this project.

 

June- 2014

Goal: To create the five days worth of lesson plans and to collaborate with teachers from different grade levels to refine them.

Action Steps:

  • Review AVID 7th grade Weeks at a glance to pull out lessons that teach the steps of taking Focused Cornell Notes.

  • Meet with Paolina Schiro, RIMS AVID coach, to review the combined lessons to make sure they still align with AVID curriculum.

  • Get three elementary, three middle school, and three high school teachers to review and critique lessons.

  • Make corrections and finalize the Five Days to Focused Cornell Notes Lesson Plans.

 

July- 2014

Goal: To Film the Five One Day Videos.

Action Steps:

  • Meet with Videographer to talk about expectations and desired outcome.

  • Create Storyboards for Videographer and Editor to use to piece together the desired story.

  • Meet with teachers and librarian, whose classes/facility will be involved in the filming to discuss their roles and responsibilities and collect photograph consent forms.

  • Meet with students who will be involved in the filming to discuss procedures and expectations and collect photograph consent forms.

  • Make plan with office staff to turn off bells and any announcements during filming.

  • Notify all staff on campus of the location, dates and times of filming.

  • Ask team closest to filming to keep their students quiet in the halls.

  • Choose wardrobe for filming and make arrangements for hair and make-up.

 

August- 2014

Goal: To acquire the rough cut videos.

Action Steps:

  • Allow the videographer full control of how to edit the videos based on my initial story boards.

  • Check in with videographer regarding progress and estimated completion date.

 

September- 2014

Goal: To make the final cuts and changes to each of the five days of videos.

Action Steps:

  • View each video.

  • Based on overall vision of project, communicate desired cuts and changes to videographer.

  • Make sure directions to viewing classroom teachers and students are very evident.

  • Apply for CNSEF Grant to buy flashdrives to store videos for each school.

 

October- 2014

Goal: To acquire the final videos.

Action Steps:

  • Allow the videographer full control of how to edit the videos based on my desired cuts and changes.

  • Check in with videographer regarding progress and estimated completion date.

 

November- 2014

Goal: To prepare the materials for the Pilot process.

Action Steps:

  • Create Pre- and Post- Student Surveys

  • Create Pre- and Post- Teacher Surveys

  • Create Pre- and Post- Student Note-Taking Tests

  • Create check list for expectations and requirements of Piloting Teacher

  • Adjust Focused Cornell Notes Checklist to be used to grade the Pre- and Post- Tests

 

January- 2015

Goal: To begin the pilot process.

Action Steps:

  • Secure teachers at the elementary, middle and high school levels to pilot the videos.

  • Meet with Piloting teachers.

  • Explain the Piloting process.

  • Be available for questions and feedback.

 

February- 2015

Goal: Continue the pilot process.

Action Steps:

  • Secure teachers at the elementary, middle and high school levels to pilot the videos.

  • Meet with Piloting teachers.

  • Explain the Piloting process.

  • Be available for questions and feedback.

 

March- 2015

Goal: To finish the pilot process and start assembling the pieces for the capstone presentation.

Action Steps:

  • Collect Data from pilot schools.

  • Continue trying to get approval from AVID to host the videos on their website.

  • Present the videos to the middle school principals in order to roll out for the 2015-2016 school year.

  • Fine-tune my ePortfolio.

  • Begin creating my capstone presentation PowerPoint.

 

April- 2015

Goal: To put the finishing touches on this project.

Action Steps:

  • Collect Data from pilot schools.

  • Continue trying to get approval from AVID to host the videos on their website.

  • Send interest survey to middle school principals.

  • Fine-tune my ePortfolio.

  • Fine-tune my capstone presentation PowerPoint.

 

May- 2015

Goal: To finalize the Five Days to Focused Cornell Notes Project.

Action Steps:

  • Input and analyze data from pilot schools.

  • Continue trying to get approval from AVID to host the videos on their website.

  • Fine-tune my ePortfolio.

  • Fine-tune my capstone presentation PowerPoint.
